30 kg saffron seized, one held
Kozhikode, Aug 30 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today arrested a passenger at the Karippur International Airport for carrying 30 kg of saffron worth about Rs 30 lakh in the domestic market.
DRI sources said on a tip-off, sleuths nabbed Sameer Kadam Kunnummal, hailing from Panoor in the neighbouring Kannur district.
He arrived by a NACIL I flight ''IC 598'' with the contraband, which was concealed in two cartons of chocolate and toiletries.
On interrogation, the accused, employed in Sharjah, revealed that he carried the contraband for an air ticket and 500 Dirhams, the sources said.
He would be produced before a magistrate here.
DRI had seized 14 kg of saffron from the airport a few weeks ago.
