11 jawans killed in landmine explosion in Jharkhand
Jamshedpur, Aug 30 (UNI) At least eleven jawans of Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP), including a sub-inspector, were killed in a powerful landmine explosion, triggered by Maoists, near Burudih dam in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand today.
The impact of the explosion was so intense that the jeep carrying the personnel was blown to smithereens and the bodies were flung around the explosion site.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepka Kumar Ambastha told UNI that under the guidance of Sub-inspector Ravikant, a team of nine jawans was on a long range patrolling and returning from Burudih area under Ghatshila police station.
According to sources, the toll might rise as intense search operation was launched following the explosion.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shibu Soren condemned the naxalite attack and said adequate compensation would be given to the family of the deceased.
