Shillong, Aug 29 (UNI) A senior cadre of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has surrendered before the BSF, even as police recovered two Chinese made 9mm pistols and four rounds of live ammunition from a dustbin, police today said.

Lidon Syrti, the 'personal security officer of HNLC Commander-in-Chief' Bobby Marwein surrendered empty-handed yesterday before the BSF personnel at Dona border outpost in Jaintia Hills.

Syrti deserted the tribal militant outfit due to ill-treatment by top HNLC leaders towards the junior cadres in their hideouts inside Bangladesh.

In another incident, the Meghalaya state police recovered two Chinese made 9mm pistols and four rounds of live ammunition under a heap of garbage at Jowai, the district headquarters of Jaintia Hills district.

The weapons were recovered based on the information provided by HNLC member Phyrnailang Swer. Swer was arrested recently for extorting money from coal traders and businessmen in Jaintia Hills district.

Earlier, a HNLC cadre, Fullman Khongthohrem alias Dum, surrendered before Superintendent of Police AR Mawthoh.

Khongthohrem, joined the outfit in 2002 and was trained in Chittagong Hills Tract in Bangladesh.
