Shibu Soren wins trust motion in J'khand Assembly

Ranchi, Aug 29 (UNI) The three-day-old Shibu Soren-led UPA Government won the confidence motion, securing 42 against Opposition NDA's tally of 34 in Jharkhand Assembly today.

A special session was held for the confidence motion and after a six-hour debate, voting was taken up.

The effective strength of the House was 81. One seat fell vacant following assassination of Ramesh Singh Munda (JD-U) by the Maoists last month.

Speaker Alamgir Alam yesterday suspended voting rights of two suspended BJP MLAs - Bishnu Bhaiya and Manohar Tekriwal - for the crucial trust motion.

Besides, suspended BJP member Kunti Singh abstained from the voting.

Mr Soren, who failed to obtain majority earlier on March 11, 2005, today sailed through managing a comfortable majority.

Mr Soren led a Council of Ministers comprising eleven others, who were sworn in on August 27.
