Lalu demands strict action against arsonists

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad today expressed serious concern over continued violence in Orissa for the past several days and demanded the State Government to take strong action against arsonists.

A statement issued by RJD deputy leader in the Lok Sabha on behalf of Mr Lalu, charged the Naveen Patnaik Government with not taking any action against the VHP activists who were targetting the minorities, particularly the Christians, to please the BJP, its ally in the state.

Recalling the incident when Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two young sons were burnt alive, the Railway Minister said such kind of violence had become akin to Orissa. Attacks on churches were happening frequently and the State Government was behaving like a mute spectator, he said.

Mr Prasad asked the Orissa Government to ensure that no damage is done to life and property in the state, besides taking strong action against the perpetrators of the violence immediately, he added.
