District collector pulls up PCB officials for inaction
Coimbatore, Aug 29(UNI) District Collector V Palanikumar today pulled up the officials of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) here for not observing norms set by them.
According to sources, Mr Palanikumar brushed aside lame excuses cited by PCB District Engineer S Selvan for not taking action against workers who used chemical paints while making Ganesha idols.
The idols laced with chemicals would pollute the tanks during immersion and it is for the PCB officials to take action against them for not observing the norms, he said.
During a confrence of police and revenue officials in view of the forthcoming Ganesha festival, Mr Palanikumr had urged them to remain alert and take proper precautionary measures to check untoward incidents during the festival and subsequent processions for the immersion of the Ganesha idols scheduled from September three to seven.
Over 1,300 Ganesha idols have been made using chemicals this year, violating PCB norms in the district.
