CPI asks for special package for flood-hit UP

Lucknow, Aug 29 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today demanded special package from the Centre for the flood-victims in Uttar Pradesh, just as was being provided to Bihar.

After taking a stock of the grim deluge condition, CPI state unit secretary Girish said, here all in all 674 villages of 21 districts were reeling under the critical flood situation and nearby 1,000 people have died due to flood and rain-related incidents in the state so far.

Besides, the deluge has destroyed several hectares of farmland.

The affected areas should be immediately declared flood-hit, he demanded.

''Appropriate facilities were not reaching the flood victims...even the kins of the deceased are awaiting ex-gratia of Rs one lakh that was promised to them by the state government,'' the CPI leader claimed.

Alleging misuse of flood relief fund by the state government, he said the Central government should declare special package for UP akin to the way it was announced for flood affected Bihar.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Lok Dal also drawed Governor T V Rajeswar's attention into the grim flood situation.
