Anganwadi workers lay siege to Collectorate
Kakinada, Aug 29 (UNI) Hundreds of Anganwadi workers from various parts of the district today laid siege to the Collectorate here in support of their six point-charter of demands.
They squatted on the road blocking all entry points to the Collectorate, following a call given by the Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union.
The agitators, led by union state Secretary G Babyrani, district unit President M Veeralakshmi and Honorary President Duvva Seshu Babji, continued the stir for over four hours despite the police's efforts to pacify them.
Later, District Revenue Officer (DRO) Mohana Raju invited them to his chamber and held discussions on their demands, which included issuance of GOs to hike wages and dispense with the system of making priority payments on caste basis.
The stir was called off following an assurance from the DRO that their demands would be fulfilled within a fortnight.
