New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) Communications and IT Minister A Raja today said a Rs 5,000 computing device would be launched in the Indian market soon.
Based on Intel's revolutionary atom-processor, he said the device would provide simple and easy internet access to unconnected people at an affordable price.
The Minister called upon industry to continuously innovate to create cost effective internet access usage models.
Mr Raja said the device will help accelerate pace of deployment of broadband. This, he added, will, in turn, pace up inclusive social and economic changes in the society.
He underlined the need to bridge digital divide in India as early as possible and commended industry for working on a new class of simple, affordable, internet-centric devices such as nettops, netbooks and mobile internet along with affordable broadband connectivity by service providers.
