Srinagar, Aug 28 (UNI) Curfew was today relaxed for the first time in areas under the jurisdiction of two police stations in the civil lines.
According to police, curfew was relaxed in Maisuma and Kralkhud police station areas from 1000 hrs to 1030 hrs.
This is for the first time the curfew was relaxed in these areas since it was imposed on August 24 morning at 0400 hrs. However, two hour relaxation had been given in phases on rotation in other parts of the city yesterday.
People in Maisuma and Kralkhud were seen out on streets in large numbers, purchasing essentials.
The headquarter of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and historic Lal Chowk also come under the jurisdiction of Maisuma police station.
The Coordination Committee (CC) spearheading the present agitation in the Kashmir Valley had appealed to people to reach Lal Chowk on August 25, forcing authorities to clamp curfew a day before the rally.
The CC, an alliance of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference and other separatists and traders and fruit growers, are demanding opening of Jehlum Valley and other roads with Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) for trade, release of all detenues, withdrawal of troops and special powers to security forces in the valley.
