CBI seeks time to submit explanations on CDs in Sister Abhaya case

Kochi, Aug 28 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today sought three days time to submit an explanation regarding the number of CDs on the narco-analysis tests in connection with the Sister Abhaya murder case.

Earlier, Justice V Ramkumar directed CBI investigating officer R K Agarwal to submit an explanation on the number of CDs they received from the Forensic Sceince Laboratory (FSL) in Bangalore.

The Court clarified in the order that in the light of communication received from the FSL, it is necessary to obtain an explanation, if any, from Mr Agarwal.

Th FSL had informed the Court that they had sent three CDs documenting the narco-analysis tests conducted on Fr Jose Puthrikae, Fr Thomas Kottur and Sister Sephy last year as against the CBI's claim that they got only one CD from the laboratory.

The Court also observed that it did not want the public exchequer to be drained by asking the investigating officer to come to Kochi from New Delhi and directed the CBI to send the requisite explanation by fax itself.

Mr Justice Ramkumar also directed the Director-General of Police (DGP) to initiate a throrough inquiry into the credentials of Mr Joemon Puthenpurackal, who moved a petition seeking the CBI investigation into the Sister Abhaya murder case within a time-frame.

The Court directed the DGP to constitute a team of specially- chosen police officers with unquestionable integrity and file a report within six months of getting the copy of the judgement.
