BSNL officer booked against demanding bribe, CBI raids house
Bangalore, Aug 28 (UNI) A Senior BSNL officer was found possessing assets worth over Rs 77 lakh, including a huge amount of cash, jewellery and documents on his premises during a search operation in Hubli by CBI officials yesterday.
According to a release from CBI here today, the anti corruption cell conducted a raid on the premises of G Brahmaiah, Deputy General manager, Optical Fibre Projects, BSNL, Hubli, following a complaint that he had demanded a bribe of Rs 5000 to clear a bill from a supplier.
In searches, CBI officials found Rs 26.40 lakh in cash stacked in envelopes and boxes. They also found 991 gms of gold and ornaments, 4.85 kg of silver, title documents of a house in Vijayawada, three bank accounts and documents related to owning a site in Mysore, all amounting to Rs 77.70 lakh.
The accused was being questioned on the acquisition of the seized assets, the source of huge cash and other related articles, the release added.
