Assam ONGC to raise new battalion
Guwahati, Aug 28 (UNI) ONGC today signed a MoU with the Assam government for raising a special battalion. The MoU was signed with the Principal Secretary (Home) and the recruitment process would start soon, ONGC executive director (HR) Dr A K Balyan said here.
He informed that the battalion would be about 1200 strong and it would replace the home guards and other untrained security personnel.
The battalion recruits would be deployed with the ONGC for the first 10 years compulsorily and the term would be subject to extension, Dr Balyan added.
The raising of the battalion fulfills the company's long-standing demand for a dedicated security force unit.
The Central Industrial Security Force will, however, not be withdrawn even after deployment of the new battalion, with the ONGC asking for additional companies till the new force is ready.
The suggestion for a new proposal was pending for about five years.
