Ten women burnt alive in chemical factory blaze

Pune, Aug 27 (UNI) Ten women were charred to death and six others suffered burns in a major fire that broke out in a chemical factory in the industrial belt of Bhosari on the outskirts of the city this evening.

Chief Fire Officer K B Gawde told UNI that the inferno broke out at 1715 hrs. The cause of the fire was not immediately known but investigations are underway.

Eleven fire engines and 80 firefighters were pressed into service to douse the flames that were later contained, he said, adding people from nearby areas also helped in the rescue operations.

The incident happened during the second shift of the factory, which has mostly women workers.
