Police claims to solve Surat blasts; 1 held

Ahmedabad, Aug 27: On Tuesday, Aug 26 Surat police arrested the key motivator and conspirator of the Surat bomb plot, Tanvir Pathan from Mumbai. Surat"s Special Operation Group (SoG) and Mumbai ATS caught Tanvir in a joint operation. The first arrest in the Surat case, this could be the key to unravelling the plot behind planting 29 bombs in Surat.

Tanvir is a close associate of Sajid Mansuri, who is the prime accused in the Ahmedabad blast case. It was Mansuri who is reported to have revealed Tanvir"s name to Ahmedabad police. But, due to lack of coordination between Ahmedabad and Surat police, Tanvir managed to escape just before a team of Ahmedabad crime branch reached Surat.

Surat police had then detained some of his family members and friends for questioning. Their interrogations lead them to Tanvir"s arrest in Mumbai. "What made tracking Tanvir difficult is that he does not have any criminal record, nor is he linked to SIMI overtly," said police.

The work of planting all 29 bombs in Surat was overseen by Tanvir. For this, he had employed six youths from Surat. Reports says that Tanvir has disclosed the names of his aides.
