Shailesh Naik new Earth Science secretary
New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) Tsunami expert Shailesh Naik today took over as Secretary, Earth Science.
Dr Nayak was earlier Director, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad.
He was responsible for setting up the state-of-the-art tsunami warning centre within two years.
He also conceptualised and developed the marine GIS for the country, and developed techniques for identifying various coastal landforms, mangrove plant communities as well as high tide line and low tide line.
Dr Naik, Chairman, Indian Ocean-Global Ocean Observing System, also received several awards, including the Indian National Remote Sensing Award.
