Rupee closes firm at 43.74/75 against greenback
Mumbai, Aug 27 (UNI) The Rupee today closed firm at 43.74/75 per US Dollar, appreciating by ten paise from its previous close of 43.84/85 on suspected intervention by the Reserve Bank of India.
The local unit resumed the day on firm note and touched a low at 43.92 on dollars' demand from corporates and oil companies in early trade. However, the reported intervention of RBI pulled it to a day high of 43.64 per dollar in the late trade before closing, dealers said.
Meanwhile, the RBI today fixed the reference rate for US dollars at Rs 43.73 per unit, down by 34 paise, against yesterday's rate of Rs 44.07 per dollar.
The six-month and annualised forward premium was quoted lower at 2.94 (2.98) per cent and 2.55 (2.54) per cent, respectively.
The Rupee ended the day at 64.34 (63.87) per unit against the Euro. It closed at 80.60 (80.31) per unit against the Pound Sterling. Rupee ended at 39.90 (39.96) per hundred units against the Japanese Yen.
