Mayawati attaches conditions with CBI probe into Kanpur blast
Lucknow, Aug 27 (UNI) Questioning the intentions of the Centre over suggesting a CBI probe into the bomb blast at a Kanpur hostel on August 24, Uttar Pradesh government today shot off a letter to the Central government saying it would recommend a probe by the premier investigating agency only if all the terrorist incidents in the recent past would have similar probe.
''Why single out Kanpur incident? my government wants CBI probe into bomb blasts in Faizabad, Varanasi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and attack on CRPF camp in Rampur,'' UP chief minister Mayawati told a press conference making it amply clear that state government would recommend a CBI probe into Kanpur incident only if the Centre agreed to same probe into these incidents as well.
Pointing out a political undertone behind the Centre's suggestion, she said the Congres-led UPA government was interested in the probe becacse the involvement of Bajrang Dal, the supporting outfit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been reported in the incident in which two people were killed.
''It seems, the UPA wants to help the BJP hence wants Central probe into the incident,''she added.
'' I suggest a combined probe by the CBI in all the cases of similar nature in the recent past, which also included Kanpur hostel blast incident,'' the UP CM said.
There had been several bomb blasts by the terrorists in the state but the Centre had never shown any interest but it became active immediately after the Kanpur blast, Ms Mayawati said. '' It is because the Central government knows that those engaged in the nefarious designs would be exposed if the state police investigates the case,'' she said.
Putting the ball into the Centre's court, the UP CM said as many as 19 cases of sensitive nature had been recommended by her government for CBI probe, but the latter expressed its inability to take up these citing lack of officers and too much of pendency as the reasons for the refusal.
Making specific reference of CBI recommendation into much-publicised police recruitment scam during the previous Samajwadi Party regime, Ms Mayawati said even after the direction of High Court, the CBI refused to take up the case which clearly amounted to contempt of the court.
She also made it clear that the Special Task Force (STF) and Anti Terrorist Squad(ATS) of the state government were already investigating the terrorist incidents and there was some progress as well.
