Local Congress leader shot dead in Hooghly
Hooghly, Aug 27: A local Congress leader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at his residence at Prabhatnagar under Srerampore police station in this district.
Officer In-charge Salil Ganguly said here today that former councillor of the Srerampore Municipality Bidyapati Sinha (45) was gunned down last night.
The assailants arrived on a motorbike and shot the Congress worker at close range, killing him on the spot.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, police said.
An investigation had been launched in the matter, police said, adding that no arrests had been made so far.
