Partial impact to JDP-sponsored bandh in Bengal
Hooghly, Aug 27: A 12-hour bandh, called by a regional outfit Jharkhand Disham Party (JDP), registered partial impact in this district as the agitators blocked train movement.
The JDP had called the bandh to demand the inclusion of Bankura district of West Bengal in Jharkhand.
The agitators disrupted train movement in the Howrah-Bardhaman and Howrah-Tarakeswar sections, causing delay of several local and long-distance trains.
Offices, banks and other establishments in Hooghly district also registered poor attendance as daily commuters could not reach their destinations following disruption in train movement.
However, the bandh was peaceful with no untoward incident being reported from anywhere in the district so far, police said.
