HP Cabinet approves Clean Development Mechanism

Shimla, Aug 26 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet today granted approval to requisition the services of expert consultants for promotion of Clean Development Mechanism in the state in order to reduce the effects of the green house gases.

The Cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, decided to make Department of Environment and Scientific Technology as nodal agency for rooting the proposal for further approval under CDM regime.

He said that a Committee consisting of Additional Chief Secretary (Forests), Principal Secretary (Environment) and Principal Secretary MPP&Power, will suggest further action required to be taken in the matter by the state government.

The Cabinet also approved 500 KW Mini Hydro Electric Project.

The plant would be based upon the effluent of Sewerage Treatment Plants located at Lalpani and Badagaon of Shimla town to gainfully utilise the waste water for generation of electricity.
