S'pore awards doctorate to Dr Kalam
Singapore, Aug 27: Former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam has been awarded an honourary Doctor of Engineering degree from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The NTU said the honourary degree has been conferred on Dr Kalam in recognition of his life-long achievements in serving India, his international reputation in Science and Technology, and his role in improving India-Singapore relations.
Dr Kalam, who received the degree from President S R Nathan yesterday, also discussed the new Nalanda University with Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo. He had mooted the revival of the Nalanda University as an ancient centre of learning in Bihar during his last visit to Singapore.
Today, he will officially opened the third campus of the Global Indian International School in Singapore and speak on 'Dynamics of National Development' at a forum organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry in Singapore.
Dr Kalam is visiting Singapore August 26-27, following which he will be visiting Kuala Lumpur.
