Delegation to meet Munsi for more autonomy in IFFI for Goa

Panaji, Aug 27 (UNI) Pleading for more functional autonomy in the conduct of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa government has decided to send a delegation to the Centre to convince the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) to accord bigger role for the state.

Chief minister Digambar Kamat will lead the delegation as chairman of the governing council of the Entertainment Society of Goa(ESG), which is the nodal agency of the state government for the conduct of the IFFI, for which Goa had been the venue since the year 2004.

The delegation was being sent to meet the Information and Broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, with the DFF recently turning down the MOU sent by the ESG proposing specific areas of functional autonomy in due course.

The Goa government originally planned to take over the entire conduct of the IFFI on its own from next year, but the DFF was against it for various reasons.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here today after the council met under the chairmanship Mr Kamat, ESG chief executive officer Manoj Srivastav said the Society had also decided to launch ''Goa Cinephile'', a club of creative filmmakers.

It had also decided to promote marketing of films through a German-based Company ReelPort, besides encouraging short filmmakers in a big way from the current festival edition onwards.

The ESG had also decided to modify the film finance scheme by widening the scope of beneficiaries who make films in different formats.
