Vice-President assures Olympic medallists of full support
New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) Vice-President Hamid Ansari today asked Sports Minister M S Gill to find out the modalities to tap the sports potential in the country to make it 'Sports power'.
The Vice President made these remarks when Beijing Olympic Games Medal winners Vijender Kumar and Sushil Kumar called on him here.
Mr Ansari expressed confidence that in the next Olympic Games, Indian sportspersons will win more medals and make the nation proud.
''We have to learn how some countries have become 'Sports power','' he said.
Welcoming the winners, the Vice President said in sports, the most important thing was playing for the country rather than winning or loosing the game.
Participating in the Olympic Games, held once in four years, is a proud moment for any sportsperson, he said.
He assured the award winning sports persons and sports authorities present there of full support and cooperation of Government and society.
The Union Sports Minister Dr M S Gill, IOA Chairman Shri Suresh Kalmadi and a number of sports persons were present.
