MLA writes to UN for separate nation
Bhopal, Aug 26 (UNI) Maverick Samajwadi Party MLA Kishor Samrite has written to the United Nations (UN) to ''pressurise'' the centre to either develop Lanji constituency, in Madhya Pradesh, or give it the status of a separate nation.
Mr Samrite sent the letter to the New Delhi-based UN office so that it may be ''forwarded'' to UN Secretary General Banki Moon.
Copies of the letter were issued to the press here today.
''With the objective of providing basic facilities to the people of my naxalism-affected constituency having a population exceeding 10 lakh and 1.26 lakh voters, I earlier wrote to the President and Prime Minister but of Lanji's problems remain unsolved,'' the legislator said.
Mr Samrite alleged that, barring a few of Lanji's 167 villages, none had tarred roads, permanent drains, toilets, power, potable water, education and health centres.
''There is an annual exodus of 60,000 labourers, 20,000 children are plagued with malnutrition and 15,000 people are homeless,'' he added.
