Farmer commits suicide due to crop failure
Hassan, Karnataka, Aug 26 (UNI) A 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Solagudu village in Arakalagudu Taluk today, reportedly due to crop failure.
Police said that Kenche Gowda, who owned two acres of land, had taken Rs 70,000 loan from State Bank of Mysore and Rs one lakh from private money lenders for raising potato crop.
As the crop was completely destroyed in the recent heavy rains, he was unable to repay the loan and took the extreme step.
During the last one week, three farmers have committed suicide in the district due to crop failure.
