Abu Dhabi makes IDs compulsory for expats by 2010

Dubai, Aug 26 (UNI) Abu Dhabi has made the National Identity Card mandatory for all expats who will be deported if they do not get one by 2010.

A top official at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) said that without IDs the status of expats will be illegal and it will be difficult to do transactions at the bank and car registration offices.

Darwish Ahmad Al Zarouni, Director General of EIDA told the Gulf News, ''Schools will not accept admission of their children and their employers will be taken to task for recruiting them.'' Starting November 1, foreign businessmen, investors and company managers will be required to register for the national identity card, Mr Al Zarouni added.
