28 growth in I-T collection targetted
Bilaspur, Aug 26(UNI) The Income Tax department has set a target to collect Income Tax of Rs 2426 crore this year, about 28 percent higher than the actual collection of Rs 1888 crore during 2007-08.
Bilaspur division topped in tax collection totalling Rs 1202 crore last year and current year's target was Rs 1547 crore, according to Chhattisgarh's Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Kamlesh Argal.
He told reporters here that there were several such commercial organisations in the state which showed an annual income of Rs one or Rs two lakhs despite carrying out a sales turnover of above Rs two crore per year.
Stating that it was rare to see commercial organisations doing business at less than ten percent profit, he said such organisations would be put under scrutiny. There was substantial increase in amount collected under Tax Deducted at Source, Mr Argal added.
