Three youths assaulted during bandh

Kendrapara, Aug 25 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Deoband village under Pattamundia Police station of the district today following a clash between the supporters of the bandh and a minority community.

The incident occurred while hundreds of VHP and Bajrang Dal activists allegedly tried to forcibly close shops to make the dawn to dusk Orissa bandh call given by them in protest against the killing Swami Laxamananda Sarswati.

Police said the bandh supporters ransacked a couple of shops after the shop owners refused to close down their shops.The irate villagers then assaulted three activists of VHP and detained them in their village .

In retaliation the VHP activists allegedly assaulted two youths of the minority community and damaged their bikes at Deobanda chowk while they were on their way towards Pattamundai on Kendrapara- Pattamundai road.

Later police released the youths from the clutches of the minority community.

Both the VHP and the minority community members have lodged complaints with the police demanding action against each other.
