Govt to provide scholarship to 4 communities on par with BCs
Hyderabad, Aug 25 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to provide scholarships to the students of four communities- Kapu, Telaga, Balija, and Vontari- on par with the Backward Class (BC) students in the state.
Flanked by State Housing Minister B Satyanarayana, Transport Minister Kanna Laxminarayana, addressing a press conference here said Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had, in principle, agreed to provide the scholarships to these communities from this academic year.
Though the Congress Government had brought the Government Order (GO) in 1994 to provide scholarships to these communities, the earlier TDP government had not implemented the order, he said, adding, the GO would be issued very soon.
Asked whether the government had agreed to include these four communities in view of the new political party being launched by actor Chiranjeevi, he said the state government had taken up several welfare measures for the backward classes.
He said when the Congress government had brought the GO in 1994, Mr Chiranjeevi had not even thought of floating a political party.
Housing Minister Satyanarayana said the students of these communities would get scholarship from this academic year and the fees would be reimbursed to the students, who had already paid for the professional courses.
