Goa Govt recalls Social Science textbook

Panaji, Aug 25 (UNI) Goa government has recalled the English and Marathi versions of Social Science (History and Political Science), tentbooks for Class X, following allegations of distortion of historical facts and religious disrespect.

In a reply to a question tabled in the state assembly today, Education Minister Atanasio Monserrate said it was replaced by another book, 'Modern World-History and Civics', published by Maharashtra State Board, Pune, for the current academic year only.

The books were being supplied free of cost by the Goa Board and the expenditure met from its own funds, he said.

Critics pointed out that the textbook was recalled because there were some vague comments of alleged distortion of historical facts and religious disrespect. Similarly, the Marathi translation was also considerd to be poor.

The Hindi taxt book 'Sparsh-II' had also been recalled following some complaints for the current year, he added.
