Yamunanagar, Aug 25 (UNI) Activists of Nari Sangharsh Samiti and some other local organisations today burnt the effigy of actress Bipasha Basu in protest against her announcement that she would ''go on a date'' with boxer Vijender Kumar who won the bronze medal in Beijing Olympics.

After the burning of Bipasha's effigy near DAV Girls College here, Nari Sangharsh Samiti president Vijaya Babbar said Bipasha Basu had not only sullied the image of Indian woman by making such an offer but also adversely affected Vijender's performance by distracting him in his pursuit for the gold medal.

''The Indian culture has given the woman the status of a godess while Bipasha's offer has brought us shame,'' she said.

Ms Babbar allged that the actress had angered the women folk by her controversial offer and demanded an apology from her.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Mr Ashok Bhatia of the Bhatia Eucation Society and Mr Kirpal Singh of the Haryana Janhit Congress.
