Undertrial woman commits suicide in Jail

Mumbai, Aug 24 (UNI) An undertrial woman today committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan of the Byculla Jail in south-central Mumbai, police said.

The deceased Chhaya Kamlakar Kadam (30), facing a murder charge for killing her three-year-old son following a quarrel with her husband, hanged herself from the ceiling fan of the Jail at around 0600 hrs.

Chayya had flung her son from a running train in Bhayander creek last week. When she tried to throw her other two children, commuters caught her and handed her over to police. Since August 22, she was in Judicial custody, police sources added.

The deceased, a resident of Kurar Village, Malad, had fought with her husband over a petty issue. In a fit of rage, she took her three children to the railway station and boarded a Virar local.
