Mathura marks Lord Krishna's birth with peace, gaiety
Mathura, Aug 24 (UNI) The birthday of Lord Krishna was celebrated with full enthusiasm and religious fervour in his birth place here.
District Magistrate Aneeta C Meshram said so far, no untoward incident has come to fore in the holy city. Tight security arrangements, however, were made for the day.
The celebrations commenced in the morning at 0400 hrs with the bathing of the ''baal gopal'' in tonnes of milk, yoghurt, ghee and honey.
Later, the same was offered to the devotees as ''prasad'' and they went for the Govardhan parikrama.
The temples at the ''Krishna Nagari'' were also decorated tastefully and children enacted ''natkhat gopal'' in the 'Raas Lilas'.
The devotees, in high spirits, chanted religious songs and bhanjans and paid obeisance to the Lord.
Sweets were also distributed in abundance to all without any bias.
Besides, dance, jhanki and other programmes were organised across Mathura on the occasion.
The devouts were thronging the city for the last two days to celebrate Lord Krishna's birth here.
