Left parties remark on Congress "childish": Chidambaram

Chennai, Aug 24 (UNI) Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram today described as ''childish'' the Left parties remark that the Congress was a sinking ship.

In a chat with newspersons after calling on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi this morning, he said the Congress has piloted the country at a time of distress.

''Congress had been a successful Captain in leading the country, which is a ship. To say Congress is a sinking ship is childish'', Mr Chidambaram added.

The Left parties, especially the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had described the Congress as a sinking ship because of its drubbings in the recent assembly elections.

It had appealed to the allies, including the DMK to jump out of the ''sinking ship''.
