Implement SEZ in transparent manner: KPCC

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 24 (UNI) The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) today urged the Marxist-led Government to establish Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in a transparent manner.

Talking to newspersons here after meeting of the KPCC Executive Committee, Party State President Ramesh Chennithala said the government's present interest in setting up SEZs was only in helping real estate mafia.

He said the government should not encourage any move to convert agriculture land for the purpose of creating SEZ.

Since Kerala was a State with high population density, any decision on SEZ should be taken with utmost care and in a transparent manner.

The present controversy within the Left Democratic Front over the SEZ issue could be seen as part of the infighting within the CPI(M), he claimed referring to the stand reportedly taken by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan against the Party State Committee's resolution asking the government to forward all the nine pending applications for SEZ status for approval.
