New central mining policy not beneficial: Sajjan Jindal

Mumbai, Aug 24: The new central mining policy remained silent on some of the archaic rules that did not benefit the states, Jindal Steel Group Vice Chairman Sajjan Jindal said. Mr Jindal who was talking to media persons on Saturday, Aug 23 said though mining was a state subject with revenue through royalty of mined ore going to them, it was the Centre which did not have any stake in the royalty revenue, having a say.

This had resulted in lack of proper extraction of various minerals, though mining activities had significantly increased over the decades in the country. Replying to a question, he said there were no indiscriminate mining activities in the iron rich Bellary District of Karnataka.

In fact, the mining was double in Orissa when compared to the Bellary area, he said.
