TN: Wedding stopped as groom was AIDS patient

Theni, Aug 23 Imagine the fate of a young woman if she was married to an AIDS patient.

For a young girl of Tamil Nadu, hours before she could tie a nuptial knot, the wedding ceremony was stopped after the bridegroom was found to be an AIDS patient. The incident was witnessed at Chinnamanur village in this District of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The marriage was fixed between one B Selvam (25), an autorickshaw driver and an 18-year-old girl, recently. As per plans, the marriage was to be held at Maravar Makkal Mandram (Marriage Hall) at Chinnamanaur on August 21.

Meanwhile, two days ago, as advised by the management of the Marriage hall, the bride and the groom had undergone medical examination in Government Hospital at Chinnamanur.

When the medical report came it was found that Selvam was an AIDS patient, however, the girl's parents felt relieved over the fact that their daughter was saved and lauded the marriage hall authorities for adopting the practice of medical check-up before marriages.

The entire nation should follow their footsteps to save the lives of brides, they added.
