Tight security in temples in Delhi for Janamashtami
New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) Security has been tightened in temples in the capital for Janamashtami, celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna.
Policemen have been deployed in great numbers especially at the Birla (Lakshmi Narayan) temple on Mandir marg, the Iskcon temple in Greater Kailash and the Mata Mandir in Chhatarpur.
A Delhi Police spokesman said, ''A tight security ring has been put around several temples in the capital. Metal detectors and CCTVs have been installed at the temples, as part of the arrangements.'' He said at the Birla Mandir, entry will be from Mandir Marg only which can be approached from the Kali Bari side as well as Peshwa Road. An Assistance Booth has been set-up near the Main Gate of the temple.
Door frame metal detectors have been installed on either sides of the temples. Restrictions have been put on carrying hand bag, briefcases, parcel, food packets, cameras and any other battery operative equipment.
Several temples have deployed volunteers to keep the crowds under control and to also keep a strict vigil.
''We expect a huge turnout of devotees on Janamashtami. Hence we will deploy volunteers who will see that queues are maintained,'' said a Iskcon temple management official.
