Rs 55 Crore loss due to Rain havoc in East Godavari

Kakinada, Aug 23 (UNI) The loss caused to crops and property in recent heavy rains in East Godavari district has been estimated at Rs 55 crore, according to District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi.

He informed the Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy during the video conference today that 26,000 hectares of paddy fields were submerged in the rains, of which paddy crop in 16,000 hecatres was damaged.

A total of 1556 houses were affecetd in 39 mandals, of which 569 were damaged totally and 987 houses partially. Compensation was paid to the affected families.

The Collector said already 700 quintals of seed on 50 per cent subsidy was supplied to the affected farmers. Rs 4 lakhs exgratia was paid to the families of the four people killed in the rain havoc.

He said that 20kgs rice and five litres kerosine was distributed to each of the 303 families sheltered in the seven relief camps in Amalapuram division.
