Pepsi workers and truckers clash outside plant
Sangrur, Aug 23 (UNI) Many workers were injured today after truckers beat them up outside the Pepsi Foods plant in Channo village in this district of Punjab.
According to police sources, the incident took place after 50-odd workers, on a week-long 'dharna' outside the plant demanding reinstatement of some of their colleagues recently fired by the Pepsi, tried to stop trucks from transporting goods for the plant.
The truck owners retaliated by calling in members of their Bhawanigarh Truck Union and beating up the protesters with batons and other blunt weapons, injuring many of them.
Six of the workers, who were seriously injured, have been referred to Indira Hospital, Patiala, the police sources said adding the mattter was under investigation.
