Poppy husk smuggler sent to 10-year jail
Kaithal, Aug 22 (UNI) The court of Additional Session Judge here today sentenced a poppy husk smuggler to ten years' rigrous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh after convicting him under the NDPS Act.
Accused Pala Ram was also sentenced to five-year term and fined Rs 5000 for firing at the police party.
In May 2005, police had laid a naka near Kangthli village when a vehicle coming from Kaithal side was stopped. The police had information that poppy husk was being smuggled from Rajasthan to Cheeka area .
As the vehicle stopped, smuggler Pala Ram jumped out of the vehicle and fired at the police party. However, the police was able to overpower the accused and arrested him. A huge quantity of poppy husk was found concealed in the vehicle.
He was put on trial which finally led to his conviction.
