Goa to constitute law commission to review state laws

Panaji, Aug 22 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today assured the state Legislative Assembly that he would constitute a state-level law commission to examine various laws of the state so that they could be reviewed and amended, if necessary.

Replying to a private members resolution moved by the Opposition BJP leader Manohar Parrikar, the Chief Minister said the proposed state law commission would be on the lines of the national commission. It would be constituted within two months time.

Following the Mr Kamat's assurance, the Oppositon leader withdrew the resolution, wherein he had demanded constitution of an expert review committee headed by a retired High Court or Supreme Court Judge to review all rules and regulations formed under various state and Central acts in vogue in the State.

He also suggested whether these laws and rules were in contravention of the provisions of the constitution.
