Star India launches first regional channel in Bengali

Kolkata, Aug 21 (UNI) Star India Pvt Ltd, India's largest media conglomerate, today unveiled its first regional general entertainment channel in Bengali, christened Star Jolsha.

Star India Pvt Ltd Vice-President (Marketing and Communication) Prem Kamath said the channel would provide an array of programmes, fiction, non-fiction programmes, mythology, movies and reality shows.

Mr Kamath informed that the Star India would launch a total of six regional general entertainment channels, adding the launch of Gujarati and Marathi versions was in the pipeline.

'' The medium of other three regional channels have not been decided yet,'' he added.

Star Jolsha will start with a new chat show by renowned film director Ritaparno Ghosh called 'Ghosh and Co', a devotional yet contemporary drama 'Durga' and daily soaps like 'Bandhan', 'Neer Bhanga Jhor' and 'Ekhaney Akash'.

'' Uttam Kumar's grandson Gaurav Chatterjee will make his television debut with 'Durga' and actor Victor Banerjee will do so with Bandhan,'' he added.
