SAD to approach PM on Haryana SGPC issue: Badal

Chandigarh, Aug 21: A day after he accused UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi of being behind the Haryana government's move to create a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday, Aug 21 sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the matter.

Talking to reporters here, he said a delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would meet the Prime Minister tomorrow to urge him to stop the Hooda government in Haryana from setting up a separate SGPC for Haryana.

Taking strong exception to the Haryana government's move, he said the Congress should desist from interfering in the religious matters of the Sikhs by trying to break SGPC.

He said the SGPC was constituted following several sacrifices made by the Sikh people and they would never allow anyone to divide it.

Mr Badal said due to the wrong policies of the Congress, the atmosphere in the country was vitiating. The Congress was responsible for the violent agitation in Jammu and Kashmir and it was now conspiring to break the SGPC, he alleged.
