Puducherry, Aug 21 (UNI) A couple from Martinique, an island under French rule in the Caribbean sea today solomnised their marriage at the Kadirgamam Murugan temple here as per Hindu customs. The man had Indian roots.

Krishna Johnmar, an agricultural scientist, told newspersons that he along with his girlfriend Cummon Maris, a teacher, came to India in search of any relatives of his great grandfather Krishnan, who along with his wife Nagammal, migrated to Martinique in 1890.

Mr Johnmar, whose mother tongue is French, said he and Maris had visited Tamil Nadu and when they could not find any of his relatives they drove down to Puducherry, which was a French colony. But they had the same experience here and could not find any one related to him, he added.

Later, the lovers thought of conducting their marriage in Hindu customs and in the land where the ancestors had lived.

For the Purpose, Johnmar changed his name as 'Kannan' and Maris as 'Radha' and the temple priest solomnised their marriage as per Hindu traditions and customs.
