Industrial strike evokes minimum response in Arunachal
Itanagar, Aug 20 (UNI) The 24-hour nationwide industrial strike, called by seven Left trade unions today, did not affect life in Arunachal Pradesh.
The twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlogun functioned normally with all the business establishments, government and private sector offices and educational institutions working as usual.
Inter and intra-state transport services and private vehicles also plied normally.
The BSNL, post offices, LIC offices and all central banks, except SBI, remained closed in response to the strike call.
The state government-sponsored Apex Bank and other private sector banks functioned normally.
However, services at the SBI were affected following disruption in internet connectivity.
Police said no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in connection with the strike.
The strike has been called by the sponsoring committee of seven Left trade unions, including CITU and AITUC, in protest against the price rise, widening economic disparity, falling real wages and mass-scale violation of the labour laws, rising unemployment and increasing atrocities on labourers.
