Apollo expells guilty doctor for Mayor's death
Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Aug 20 (UNI) Apollo Group of Hospitals has banned services of its cardiologist Jairam Iyer and his doctor-wife in its group of hospitals for alleged negligence in attending to city mayor Ashok Pingley leading to his death.
Mr Pingley suffered heart attack on the night of August 11 and was rushed to Apollo Hospital where he died on August 12.
Apollo hospital management formed a committee comprising Apollo Group Vice-Chairmen Dr Prem Kumar and Dr Prabhakar, cardiologist Shabeen Chakrobarty and Bilaspur IMA Chairman Colonel Y S Dubey to inquire into the case.
Committee members told a press conference here today that Dr Iyer, who was full-time consultant with the Apollo Group and not a regular employee, did not reach on time to attend Mr Pingley when informed.
Apollo experts visited family members of Mr Pingley and heard their complaints. They also met BJP councillors, workers and other citizens and noted complaints with regards to Bilaspur Apollo hospital. They assured that these shortcomings would be done away with.
Meanwhile, the government had seized related documents from the hospital on August 13. Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh had announced that an inquiry would be conducted in this regard. However, the government had failed to form a committee for the purpose so far.
