JK: Youth tries to commit suicide over Amarnath row

Jammu, Aug 19: A youth on Tuesday, Aug 19 allegedly attempted suicide over Amarnath Land row in bordering Ranbir Singh Pura area, some 25 km from Jammu, source said. ''Youth identified as Jitender Mehra, 20, resident of village Langar, R S Pura, consumed some poisonous substance at his residence on Tuesday, Aug 19 morning,'' sources told.

He was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu where doctors washed his stomach and he was stated to be out of danger, sources said. The sources however, maintained that the family members of the youth alleged that Amarnath land controversy forced him to take this extreme step.

This is the third incident of suicide attempt demanding restoration of land back to the shrine board following Kuldeep Kumar Verma and Dr Balwant Khajuria, who sacrificed their lives over the issue.
