Veteran journalist R K Awasthi of UP dies at 86
Lucknow, Aug 19: Veteran journalist and former general secretary of Indian Olympic Association R K Awasthi died on Tuesday, Aug 19 after a prolonged illness. He was 86 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Awasthi was Deputy News Editor with the National Herald, Lucknow edition and News Editor with the Northern India Patrika.
He was associated with several sports organisation and was the president of the UP Swimming Federation, Secretary of the Swimming Federation of India and general secretary of Indian Olympic Association.
He was the founder member of the National Union of Journalist and President of the UP Journalist Association.
He was cremated here at the Bhaisakund where a large number of journalists and other dignitaries attended.
State Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, BJP vice- president Hridya Narain Dikshit and several others have condoled the death of Awasthi.
